China News, Explained
China News, Explained
News about China, explained in plain English — so you can understand not only what happened, but why it matters there.
How each interpretation works
Every piece follows the same four parts, so you always know where you are:
- What happened — the facts, in three or four short sentences. No jargon first.
- Why it matters in China — the cultural, social, or historical background a foreign reader usually misses.
- Words to learn — three Chinese words from the story, with characters, pinyin, and a plain English meaning, so the news becomes a language lesson too.
- What to watch next — one question to keep in mind, not a prediction.
What this section is not
It is not a news feed, and it does not copy whole articles. Each piece is Allen's own explanation, in his own words, with sources named. It does not take a political side for you — it explains the background so you can form your own view.
First interpretations
The first interpretations will be linked here as they are published. Nothing here is a placeholder article — if a title is not linked yet, it is still being written.
Writing template for this section:
templates/news-interpretation-template.mdin the patch package. Copy it for each new piece, fill in every field, and only then publish it as a post.
